With its handful of pavement tables and understated branding, at first glance Goldfish looks a little utilitarian. However, look closer and you’ll discover that every table is full even at lunchtime ̶ and that some people are prepared to queue. This says something about the quality of the food on offer at this contemporary Japanese eatery by chef Akmal Anuar.

Chef Akumal Anuar in collaboration with Sunset Hospitality unveils a smart, contemporary space that feels modern, yet very familiar. He opened runaway success 3 Fils in Jumeirah Fishing Harbour in 2016 and, most recently, 11 Woodfire on Jumeirah Beach Road. Fiercely flavourful small plates range from sushi to yakitori, with the odd carb-loaded surprise thrown in for good measure, like a katsu sandwich that caused a stir when it first appeared on menus. Another longstanding favourite is a salty peanut butter chocolate tart that Anuar perfected during lockdown, served with zingy chocolate orange ice cream.

Steeped in traditional Japanese cooking methods, Goldfish draws from modern perspectives of global cuisine to craft a truly exceptional sushi and yakitori menu. Through simple techniques that amplify and highlight the taste and flavour of the ingredients, Goldfish is a welcome treat for all locals and visitors to Dubai. The menu focuses on high quality produce, simple preparation combined with traditional cooking techniques to amplify and highlight the taste and flavour of the ingredients.

With modern interpretations of sushi and yakitori, Goldfish has garnered a glowing reputation from its diners and the prestigious institutions that represent the best in global cuisine. With a Michelin Bib Gourmand and featuring in the Gault&Millau 2022 Guide, Goldfish continues to represent the best of Japanese cuisine in Dubai as chef-owner Anuar honours tradition while infusing the menu with his distinctive and unique style.
