In the province of Kotayk, not far from the village Garni is situated one of the most well-known and beautiful natural monuments of Armenia – Symphony of Stones. It is said that this natural monument is the result of the collapse of the volcanic rocks.

The monument consists of symmetrically arranged, from the first sight artificial, hexagonal cylinders that extend from the bottom of the gorge to the very tops of the rocks. These wonderful rocks were formed under high pressure conditions due to the cooling and crystallization of volcanic lava.

The monastery complex of Haghartsin, one of the wonders of Armenian medieval architecture, is located 18 km to the north of the resort town of Dilijan. Known as the Switzerland of Armenia, Dilijan features charming wooden chalets and cobbled streets. It is home to clear lakes, forests and famous monasteries.

This complex is an outstanding example of medieval Armenian architecture. Every detail is clearly thought out from a mathematical and economic point of view. For example, on the top of the building, there are two domes, resembling dormers, which let in the sun’s rays and illuminate the refectory hall.
