Y Eau de Toilette, by Yves Saint Laurent Beauté, was unveiled last year. Inspired by the man behind the brand and his freewheeling, innovative spirit, the fragrance was bold, fresh and youthful. For 2018, YSL unveils the latest addition to the family, Y Eau de Parfum. A stronger, more intense take on Y; the bottle is darker, featuring a deep black fade out, the juice is an intense white and dark fougère, and the new face is the absolute demonstration of Y’s creative, innovative spirit. The path to success, after all, always starts with a question: when we ask ourselves, why? “No matter how far I have come. No matter how much I have done. I will keep pushing. That is why I believe. That is why I will never stop.”
Where Y Eau de Toilette was a breath of fresh contemporary air with a ground-breaking point of view, Y the Eau de Parfum is a new chapter of this story. Where Y Eau de Toilette was designed for men on the path to achieving their dreams, Y Eau de Parfum, presents a natural evolution of this man. This new Y man has accomplished his dreams and is moving towards a new tomorrow. He’s a man willing to share his ideas with a focus on improving the world; a man established, confident and capable of facing the challenges presented to him. He’s one step further on the route to accomplishment.
The juice of this new fragrance is deep, fresh and masculine. Created by legendary perfumer Dominique Ropion, Y Eau de Parfum is built around a structure of fougère, among the most prevalent family in masculine fragrance, contrasted with fresh citrus and aromatic notes followed by more sensual woody notes. A new take on the fougère form, Y represents two key items in the YSL man’s wardrobe – the classic white T-shirt and the iconic black jacket.
The start of the scent is fresh, a tangy and explosive duet of bergamot and ginger. A freshness contrasted and emphasized by a fruity, juicy and crunchy green apple. Sage and juniper combined with mint redraw a powerful masculinity boosted by an elegant duet of geranium essence and absolute providing freshness and contrast. The background of the scent is more intense, more sensual, more masculine with the addition of amber woods that reinforces the mysterious depth of olibanum and Tonka bean.
Mirroring the monolithic glass form of the new iconic Y Eau de Toilette, the Suzanne Dalton-designed bottle of Y Eau de Parfum has been created, in Dalton’s words, as “an expression of purity”. Sliced through be a bright metallic Y, the bottle is strong, heavy and elegant, recognizable to his notch. For this, the Eau de Parfum, the sharp edges of the bottle are more clearly defined by an intense dark black fade-out which gradually gives way to clear glass – the effect being a sophisticated bottle you’ll want to keep on your bathroom shelf for as long possible. The bottle is a dark reflection of the intense juice within.
Adam Levine is the embodiment of both Californian cool and worldwide success. The lead singer of Maroon 5, Levine has released six hit albums with the band, all best sellers; he has acted in multiple international films and won three Grammy Awards. All of these extraordinary achievements make Levine the perfect face for Y Eau de Parfum. A bold creative force with a sense of his place in the world, Levine provides the perfect blend of youth, establishment and creativity. With his lack of fear and an intensity of vision which mirrors the dark heart of the fragrance; as he also has a clarity of thought, which reflects the bright, inclusive spirit of the scent: Levine, in short, effortlessly personifies YSL’s new Y Eau de Parfum.
