‘Second Hand’ is the first group exhibition to take place at Jameel Arts Centre, an institution dedicated to contemporary art. Drawn from the Art Jameel Collection, this display explores materiality through a range of mediums including sculpture, installation, assemblage, drawing, photography, painting and performance.
This exhibition and the artists represented within it serve to challenge the viewer’s perception of material. ‘Second Hand’ features local, regional and international artists taking a universal approach to material- and object-based practices. Handmade or machine made, traditional or modern – these pieces investigate a range of methods, functions and ideas while tackling diverse narratives.
