The epitome of bespoke luxury and fine craftsmanship, Berluti introduces an innovative new surface finish that combines the traditional art of stenciling with the Maison’s elaborate patina-know how, to offer its clients a one-of-a-kind customized piece that will be remembered and cherished for years to come. Berluti’s new Illusion Patina is an exquisite service in which artisans create an illusion of a texture through stenciling and leather colouring. The technique launches with an exclusive hand-made alligator scale pattern, the first of many patterns to come, and also allows customers to add initials on their chosen emblematic product.
Renowned for their iconic patina services, the house takes pride in offering customers the opportunity to bring their accessories to life and express themselves through an impressive palette of shades to choose from. The protective patinas are created and carefully applied on a leather product – be it footwear, bags, small leather goods or belts.
Berluti artisans approach the craft of the “Illusion Patina” with utmost precision – a stencil for the pattern is cut out and applied on to the product, after which the pigments, dye and essential oils are gently massaged over the stencil to penetrate the leather for a rich and long-lasting finish. Like a painter, the artisan uses an array of tools such as brushes, sponges and rags to create a clean and authentic finish. Finally, the stencil is removed to reveal a beautiful alligator pattern. To complete the personalization process, Berluti reveals its very own alphabet for an exclusive, playful and innovative alternative to its traditional ‘hot stamping’.
Berluti dates back to Paris in 1895 and has been built by four generations of shoemakers. In 2005 fine leather goods were introduced and, in 2011, a complete clothing collection as well as a bespoke service available in Paris in its rue de Sèvres store. Berluti has more than 40 stores in all the major cities since 2013.
